Holidays
Through out the year Germans take holidays. We share quite a few holidays with Germany that fall on the same dates. New Years Day on January 1st, Christmas December 24, 25 and 26. Germans also take holidays not shared with Americans that don't fall on the same dates. Such as Labor day on May 1st. Germans also have unification day on October 3rd, when the Berlin wall came down that was separating East Germany and West Germany where only government officials could leave and reenter at one of the few checkpoints such as Checkpoint Charlie. Religious holidays include Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension and Whitmonday. A common festival is Carnival and Rose Monday and other state holidays are also celebrated.
