Eduaction
Germans are required to go to school. They begin at age 6 and attend a primary school called a Grundschule until age 10. They go off to three different schools based upon test scores after primary school. The students with higher test scores go to a Gymnasium which is an university prep school. Nine years after attending this school, the students will receive a degree and the right to enter an university for free. To get in they must present that certificate from the Gymnasium. Students on the second track go to general high school or Realschule for six years In it they will learn academic and technological training. If they qualify, students may attend a Gymnasium and get to a university. The other students who go to a general school or Hauptschule for five to six years. Most are in the 1st or 2nd track. Transfers from track to track are rare and seldomly done.
Most students attend public schools. There are also Roman Catholic private schools. For those with disabilities, there are also special education schools. Germany has 100 universities all over the place that are public. The school system is paid for by the state. The time in school also varies by the state of residence.
